IMPORTANT UPDATE
(August 2015)
My motion at the August council meeting that the old bowling club land in Carlisle be classified as public open space was accepted by council. The current ground will need some remedial work to turn it into parkland. Local residents who feared that the land would be sold off can now rest easy. Public open space (parkland) is most important for our current residents and future generations. This is a great win for our community.
MEDIA RELEASE
July 2015
Cr John Bissett put forward a motion at the last council meeting of the Town of Victoria Park (14 July 2015) to establish and maintain the old Carlisle/Lathlain Bowling club site as a public open space.
The old bowling club site bounded by Bishopsgates St, Roberts Rd, and Planet St and adjacent to Cr Tom Wright Reserve has been a recreational site for over 60 years.
“With the state government predicting that the metro area will have a population of over 3.5 million people it is predicted that the Town of Victoria Park may have to accommodate another 19,000 dwellings in addition to the 12,000 dwellings we already have.” Cr Bissett said
“Public open space is essential now and into the future. According to an internal draft report of council the Carlisle area is low in public open spaces.” Cr Bissett said.
“Cr Keith Hayes agreed with me that it is time to classify the site as “park land.” Cr Bissett said.
“I believe the old bowling club site being classified to public open space “park land” has the support of the Town of Victoria Park administration.” Cr Bissett said.
Public consultation will take place to determine the wishes of the community.
